ANIMATED PERSONAL BRAND (MOTION GRAPHIC)
Process Documentation:
For this motion graphics assignment, I used Adobe After Effects to animate my personal brand with a modern and geometric aesthetic. The visual identity is centered around a repeating octagon shape, which I manually created using the Polygon Tool set to 8 sides. I duplicated the shape into multiple Shape Layers, arranging them in a layered structure to form a dynamic background. To animate these, I used Rotation keyframes combined with Anchor Point adjustments so each octagon rotates from its center. To add a professional touch, I applied Easy Ease to the keyframes and enabled Motion Blur, giving the spinning shapes a smooth, natural motion.
The rotating banner transition was done using a Pre-composed composition of my name and tagline inside a rectangular shape. I activated the 3D Layer switch, then animated the X Rotation to make it flip horizontally into view. I used a Null Object to control rotation and positioning for better synchronization.
Text elements were animated using the Text Animator tool I controlled Opacity, Scale, and Position to make each word fade and slide into place sequentially. Finally, I synchronized all motion to upbeat background music and adjusted timing in the Graph Editor to enhance flow and pacing.

Animation Techniques Used in Adobe After Effects
1. 🔄 Dynamic Transitions & Movement
Where used: Octagon background and rotating banner
-
I applied dynamic transitions using Rotation (Z and X axis) and Scale changes. The octagons rotate at varying speeds to create visual rhythm and build energy at the start.
-
The banner uses dynamic 3D rotation, making it appear as if it's flipping into view.
-
These transitions help establish visual interest and support a strong motion identity, ideal for a personal brand.
How: I used Transform > Rotation + 3D Layer toggle + Easy Ease for smooth acceleration/deceleration. The movement builds excitement and pulls attention to the center.
2. 🔤 Typography Animation (Text Animator)
Where used: Personal tagline or slogan
-
The text enters with smooth Opacity + Position animation, letter by letter or word by word.
-
This kinetic typography gives personality to the brand, making it feel alive and engaging.
How: I used Text Animator , Animate , Position, Opacity, and Scale. You may have adjusted Range Selector and Ease High/Low to create a progressive entrance.
3. 🪞 Parallax Effect
Where used: Background layers with multiple octagons
-
The layered octagons move and rotate at different speeds, creating depth and a parallax illusion making it feel like a multi-layered 3D space.
-
This effect gives my animation a professional, immersive feel even though it's in a 2D space. How: You manually adjusted position and rotation speed for each layer, placing some closer (larger and slower), and others further away (smaller and faster). This mimics camera depth.
4. ✨ Graph Editor + Easing
Where used: All transitions, especially text and banner
-
I used Easy Ease and likely fine-tuned your keyframes in the Graph Editor to create fluid motion curves fast start, slow finish, or vice versa.
-
This technique ensures the motion feels organic, not mechanical.
How: After applying keyframes, hit the Graph Editor, and modify the speed curves to achieve a more natural motion feel (e.g., slow in, quick out).
